Brandon Center Adopt-A-Room Program

This program is designed to ensure that the residential and community rooms at Volunteers of America's Brandon Center provide a home-like atmosphere and present a welcoming ambiance for the women and children residing at the shelter. Individuals or groups of volunteers are needed to "adopt" a room by decorating with items such as pictures, bedspreads, and area rugs. Volunteers are not responsible for painting rooms.

Career Closet and Children's Closet

This program is responsible for making appropriate clothing available to the women and children residing at the Volunteers of America Brandon Center and Theodora House and for maintaining the closets. Volunteers are needed to obtain, sort and size items and to assist women on "shopping days" with making their selections. Please call Dorothy Deadwiler at 303-750-4350 for more information.

Brandon Back-To-School BBQ

This event, which is held in early August, provides a fun and relaxing day for the children and their mothers residing at The Brandon Center. They enjoy games, activities, entertainment and a great meal. All school-aged children are given a backpack with school supplies. Younger children receive an age appropriate gift.

Mother's Day In December

This annual event will take place in 2009 on Sunday, December 6th. A dedicated group of volunteers will come together to provide a day of pampering for the ladies of Brandon Center and Theodora House. Hair stylists, nail technicians, makeup artists and massage therapists donate their time to improve spirits with a makeover. Volunteers help the ladies select high quality apparel to help with job hunting and other activities. Other volunteers help with childcare and children's activities and in serving tasty holiday dishes.

Brandon Brigade

This program assists Brandon Center and Theodora House staff in obtaining specific personal care items needed by the residents. For example,  you may be asked to donate towels and washcloths as this is an ongoing need for the shelter. Volunteers work with the shelter program Directors to determine items needed and how they will be obtained and distributed.

Theodora House Dinner Host Program

This program is responsible for ensuring that residents of Volunteers of America's Theodora House are provided with a well-balanced meal every day of the week throughout the year. Volunteers are needed to prepare meals at home, transport and serve dinner at the shelter. The average number of women being served is 24-30 daily. The Guild is responsible for several dinners a month.
