Volunteers of America operates the Durango Community Shelter and The Southwest Safehouse from the Southwestern Division of the Colorado Branch. Volunteers of America of Southwest Colorado aims to generate awareness of the issues of domestic abuse and homelessness within the community and seeks to create community-based resources to address those needs.

Tours of Volunteers of America's Durango Community Shelter are conducted monthly and include a light lunch. Tours are not a fundraising program and individuals are not asked to donate.
