Volunteers of America Colorado Branch now has a Veterans Services Program serving women veterans. The Veterans Services Program currently has 10 beds which are housed at the Brandon Center, a confidential shelter housing women and children who are homeless or the victims of domestic violence.
In order to be considered for a veteran’s bed at the Brandon Center, the veteran must be eligible for medical benefits through the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Upon confirmation of VA eligibility the veteran may be admitted to the Brandon Center provided they meet one or more of the following criteria:
- Suffering from service connected PTSD or MST (military sexual trauma)
- Homeless
- Victims of domestic violence
Finally, the veteran must be appropriate for the facility as determined by Brandon staff and/or the Manager of Veteran’s Services. Veterans must be capable of living in the shelter environment with large numbers of women and children, must be drug and alcohol free, and must be emotionally/mentally stable enough to follow Brandon Center house rules/protocols.
Please contact Amy Mitchell, Manager of Veterans Services, at 303-620-9190 for further information.
