For more than twenty years, the Volunteers of America City
Harvest Food Bank
has collected and redistributed non-perishable
and surplus food to community-based organizations in the Denver
metro area that serve the most needy individuals and families.
City Harvest is located in downtown Denver near the Five-Points
area. Every year Volunteers of America City Harvest Food Bank
provides food to over 20,000 individuals, including: homeless men,
women and families; women and children fleeing domestic violence;
and low-income elderly, individuals and families.
Approximately 900,000 pounds of food is collected and distributed
by City Harvest each year. Almost one-third of it is non-perishable
food collected annually through several major food-drives. City
Harvest also collects non-perishable and surplus food five days a
week from grocers, bakeries, retail outlets and warehouses.
The food is used by more than 85 community-based organizations,
including small, inner-city food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless
helters and battered women’s shelters located throughout the
Denver metropolitan area.
