The giving atmosphere at RSVP (and VOA) enrich my perspective
on life in these, my later years. Beautiful, bright fellow
volunteers and staff emphasize the satisfaction of giving one’s self
in service to others.

-Fred E. Baca, RSVP Volunteer since 1997 |

Without volunteers many agencies, many nonprofit agencies,
would struggle to keep their doors open. Volunteers save agencies
thousands of dollars each year through their services. I’m glad that
the VOA and RSVP recognize this.
-Eileen Young, RSVP Volunteer since 2005 |

Kudos to all your staff! I work most closely with Dolores
Cuthbertson. She does an outstanding job of getting details of the
[special event] assignments and conveying that info to volunteers.
-Gary Grover, RSVP Volunteer since 2000 |

All of the RSVP volunteers are wonderful. They are all
steady, reliable individuals that volunteer from the heart,
expecting nothing in return materially. All have wonderful warm
spirits.
-Olive Crawford, Volunteer Manager, Food Bank of the Rockies |

Our RSVP volunteer not only manages one of our programs, but
solicits continual growth. If not for her the program would be
lacking in many ways.

One of our RSVP volunteers founded this hospital. One of our
RSVP volunteers founded a volunteer position. The other RSVP
volunteer coordinated our donation acknowledgement process and
filing system. Without RSVP volunteers our hospital would not exist
and the animals would lack tender, loving care.
- Neysa Barlage, Volunteer Manager, Harrison Memorial
Animal Hospital |

RSVP volunteers help to create the necessary link between
generations for our students. Students experience a higher level of
confidence and self-esteem when they know someone is there only for
them.

Denver International Airport
There are locations at DIA where we know the traveling public will
be looking for assistance while passing through the airport. One
such area is when we are working in Immigrations and Customs. In
trying to help expedite the passengers arriving from overseas in
getting through these long lines, we get to talk to almost everyone
before they reach an agent. At times we have over two hundred
passengers standing in line. As they progress from the rear of the
line to the front, they can see the volunteer and hear our comments
to the other passengers.
About two months ago, a gentleman, once he reached the front of the
line, took from his billfold the enclosed poem. This was printed on
hard paper, not from a duplicating machine. As he handed me the
poem, all he said was, “Thanks.”
You know when answering a question for a passing traveler that they
appreciate your help, but in this case the thanks from the passenger
was sincere.

Thank You For Your Smile!
A smile costs nothing, but gives much.
It enriches those who receive, without
Making poorer those who give. It takes
But a moment, but the memory of it
Sometimes lasts forever. None is so rich
Or mighty that he can get along without
It, and none is so poor that he can’t be
Made rich by it. A smile creates happiness
In the home, fosters good will in
Business and is the countersign of friendship.
It brings rest to the weary, cheer to
The discouraged, sunshine to the soul,
And it is nature’s best antidote for
Trouble. Yet it cannot be bought, begged,
Borrowed, or stolen, for it is something
That is of no value to anyone until it is
Given away. Some people are too tired
To give a smile. Give them one of yours,
As none needs a smile so much as he
who has no more to give.
