We are very proud of our RSVP volunteers and told them so yesterday at our Annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon. The event this year was held at the Park Hill Golf Course and featured Bruce Cline, Colorado State Director for the Corporation for National and Community Service as our keynote speaker. Volunteers received gifts, door prizes (including a pair of round-trip tickets on Frontier Airlines) and were told what an essential piece of our community they are! In the past year, Denver RSVP volunteers gave over 116,000 hours of service worth a value of over 2 million dollars (based on the national value of a volunteer hour). Way to go RSVP Volunteers! You truly are an ESSENTIAL PIECE!

Well summer is definately here and the heat is on, but our Project Warmth volunteers remain diligent in working hard to create warm items for next winter. This past year, volunteers from Buck Community Center, Parker,Castle Rock, Highland, and Platt Park Senior Centers, Valverde Community Church and many other independent knitters from across Metro Denver donated 1655 knitted items for a total value of $36,704.00 to RSVPs Project Warmth! The knitted items were donated to various agencies throughout the Metro Denver area such as Meals on Wheels, Denver Center for Crime Victims, Visiting Nurses Association, homeless shelters for women and children, various hospitals, and nursing homes to name a few. When asked how helpful the knitted items were to recipients, we received a variety of touching stories...stories of children holding tight to the knitted blankets while relaying their experience of witnessing violence to counselors, a woman who had to wrap her children's hands in paper towels in the midst of our deep freeze last winter cried tears of joy when she received hats and mittens for her preschool aged children, an elderly man who had his legs amputated and was so happy to have a small laprobe to put over his legs and could not believe he could receive such a beautiful handmade gift. These stories are but a few which convey the warmth that is spread throughtout the year by caring, devoted and giving Project Warmth Volunteers!

A special thank you to Noel Cunningham and String Restaurant staff for making I Remember Mama, our annual Mother's Day brunch a huge success. Strings and sponsors Heritage Club Mountain View and Kaiser Permanente hosted over 150 elderly women who would otherwise spend Mother's Day alone. The ladies were treated to a decadent meal and then received roses and gift bags with a variety of gifts, including luscious Stephany's Chocolates. We received many calls and cards from women who attended, many of whom look forward to this event all year long, expressing gratitude for such a wonderful day. Bless all of you who donated to make Mother's Day special and memorable for so many!
