Help Sweeps through Volunteers of America

Saturday was a big day for us at Volunteers of America Colorado Branch. Thanks to Amp the Cause's Community Day, we had four major volunteer projects that improved the look and feel our facilities as well as raised the spirits of countless Volunteers of America clients.

As a part of Community Day 2015, Amp the Cause sent volunteer groups from Wells Fargo and Sage Hospitality to serve at Volunteers of America's Irving Street Women's Residence, Family Motel, Westgate Tower residence, and Sunset Towers residence. We are so thankful for all of the compassionate and talented volunteers; here is a recap of what they accomplish:

1. Sunset TowerS

There were smiles all around the room at Sunset Towers, an affordable housing center for seniors. The volunteers from Wells Fargo hosted a BINGO and painting party for the seniors. It was especially sweet to see some of the seniors who do not speak English communicate with the volunteers in a new way, through painting! Some residents even revealed a hidden talent for painting. This day of fun brought so much joy to the seniors, thank you Wells Fargo.

2. Family Motel

The Volunteers of America Family Motel is a place for homeless families to take refuge for a few nights, allowing them to relax and make a plan for long-term housing. While the motel will never be home for the families that come through, Sage Hospitality did their best to make guest feel comfortable and at home during their stay. Volunteers from Sage Hospitality planted colorful flowers out front and freshly painted five motel rooms. Thank you Sage Hospitality for ensuring that families in hard times have a nice place to stay.

3. Irving Street Women's Residence

Wells Fargo volunteers jumped in at Volunteers of America's Irving Street Women's Residence, a safe haven for chronically homeless and disabled women. The team deep cleaned throughout the building and outside, raking, and planting flowers. After the cleaning was done, the volunteers sat down to do a craft with the residents. The ladies were glad to have guest at their home!

4. Westgate Tower

At another affordable senior housing center, Westgate Tower, more volunteers from Wells Fargo planted a raised bed for the seniors to build their own garden. The residents were so grateful to have something that made them feel even more at home. If the new garden wasn't enough, the generous volunteers also cleaned and hosted a game of BINGO.

Amp the Cause is an organization that reaches families and children by supporting nonprofits throughout the Colorado community. During Amp the Cause's Community Day, over 1,000 volunteers helped over 50 nonprofits improve their facilities. We were so glad the Volunteers of America Colorado Branch got to be a part of this year's community day!
