Volunteers of America Colorado Receives Generous Grant from Wells Fargo

DENVER, (Aug. 20, 2019) — Volunteers of America Colorado has received a $150,000 grant from Wells Fargo, a dedicated partner who continues to work with the organization for the betterment of vulnerable individuals and communities throughout Colorado. This award marks the fourth Wells Fargo grant to Volunteers of America for use across Colorado at this level.

Seventy-five thousand dollars will directly support the Volunteers of America Durango Community Shelter and Southwest Safehouse and assist veterans and their families in Pueblo, Alamosa, Fort Collins, Greeley, Durango and the Denver metro area.

The remaining $75,000 will support Volunteers of America’s signature fundraising event, Western Fantasy, scheduled for October 12, 2019. Funds raised at Western Fantasy are used across Colorado to provide vital services through preschool education, shelter for families and single older women, and in-home meals and support services for elderly neighbors.

“Wells Fargo’s generous donation will provide shelter, support and hope to our most vulnerable neighbors across Colorado,” said Dave Schunk, President and CEO of Volunteers of America Colorado. “Volunteers of America Colorado depends on our community, and help from local companies like Wells Fargo allows us to serve as many individuals and families as possible.”

“At Wells Fargo, we truly believe that we are only as successful as the communities we serve,” said Keith Lobis, Region Bank President for Wells Fargo. “In addition to the work Volunteers of America does with Colorado’s veterans and underserved populations, the Western Fantasy fundraising event impacts thousands including children. Wells Fargo is very proud to support VOA across the state as well as the Western Fantasy this year.”

In 2019, Wells Fargo will donate $1 billion to address the housing affordability crisis across the country. Wells Fargo’s new philanthropic strategy benefits underserved communities through housing, financial health, and small business programs. These target areas mirror many Volunteers of America services across Colorado.

In 2018, Wells Fargo donated $12 million to 238 Colorado nonprofits including Volunteers of America with 5,140 team members volunteering 38,800 hours across the state.
