November 21, 2022
Denver – Volunteers of America Colorado will welcome media coverage on Monday, Nov. 21 and Tuesday, Nov. 22 as hundreds of Thanksgiving Dinner Baskets are distributed to the community. Each basket will contain a $50 gift card from Safeway, nonperishable food items, and bread from VOAC’s City Harvest.
The Monday event will be held at the Volunteers of America Mission on Lawrence Street and will see 500 baskets distributed. Sign-up for this program has passed, as those receiving baskets have already been allocated vouchers.
The Tuesday event will be held at VOAC’s Early Childhood Education Center on S. Yates St. 300 dinner baskets will be given out at this location. In this case, sign-up is NOT necessary. Meals will be distributed in drive-thru fashion and will be given out on a first come, first serve basis.
Separately, an additional 400 baskets will be allotted to individuals and families receiving services through VOAC in Metro Denver. Another 400 gift cards will also be sent to programs outside of the Metro area.
While VOAC previously prepared a traditional Thanksgiving spread for this event, we do recognize that tastes are not universal and not everyone likes turkey. The move to a gift card allows our clients to prepare for the holiday as they so choose. In addition to our partners from Safeway, VOAC would also like to thank Food Bank of the Rockies for providing the nonperishable items to supplement the dinner package.
