“I thought retirement meant slowing down, but RSVP showed me it’s really just the beginning of something meaningful.” —RSVP Volunteer
After decades of hard work and raising a family, Mike found himself with something he never really had before—time. But as the quiet days settled in, so did a question: Now what?
That’s when Mike discovered VOA Colorado’s AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP program—a network created for people 55 and older who still have the passion, skills, and heart to make a difference. Through RSVP, Mike connected with opportunities that matched his experience and gave him the chance to do what he loved most: help others.
Here in Colorado, nearly 1 in 14 seniors face food insecurity, unsure of where their next meal will come from. Thousands more struggle with isolation, limited mobility, and access to basic resources like transportation and healthcare. With nearly 1.4 million people over the age of 60 living in Colorado—and that number climbing each year—volunteers like Mike are critical to ensuring older adults can live with dignity, connection, and support.
VOA Colorado’s AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP program makes volunteering easy and meaningful. Whether it’s delivering meals, providing rides to medical appointments, offering companionship, or sharing professional skills, RSVP gives older adults the chance to make an impact—on their neighbors, their community, and themselves.
For Mike, it’s been nothing short of life changing. “This program gave me purpose again. It gave me people. It reminded me that retirement isn’t the end of the story. It’s just a new chapter—and this one’s all about giving back.”
Through AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP and VOA Colorado, older adults across our state are proving that the light we share with others only grows brighter with age.
