For AB, a mother of two young children with disabilities, securing stable housing was an uphill battle. Enrolled in the Green Willow Project in early 2022, she found housing and steady employment—but the financial strain of covering full rent while caring for her children remained overwhelming.
The Green Willow Project, a vital VOA Colorado rapid rehousing program, provides support, case management, and essential services to families experiencing homelessness.
Through advocacy and direct assistance, the Green Willow Project helps families like AB’s navigate complex housing systems, access financial aid, and find long-term solutions for stability. Once clients are placed safely in housing, they are in need of basic home necessities, like bath products, cleaning products, and kitchen items.
The program worked closely with AB to connect her with the Denver Housing Authority (DHA) and ensure she remained active on the waitlist for a specialized unit that could accommodate her children’s needs.
And while the journey was long, AB never lost hope. With the Green Willow Project’s guidance, she maintained regular contact with DHA, received rental assistance, and stayed engaged in case management. Finally, after months of perseverance, she and her children moved into permanent housing—a place they can truly call home.
“I am so grateful for the Green Willow Project and the support they have given me,” AB shared. “They never gave up on me, and because of them, my kids and I have a safe place to live. I couldn’t have done this alone.”
Even now, AB remains connected to VOA Colorado through Family Housing Program (FHP) case management, ensuring she continues to receive the resources and guidance needed to thrive.
Her journey is a testament to resilience, hope, and the power of community.
