A Successful Partnership to Support Denver Public Schools Families

The Southeast Community Hub is part of the Family and Community Department (FACE) at Denver Public School. Community Hubs address a holistic approach to student learning through programs and services that support the social, emotional, physical, academic and basic needs of families.

As part of the basic needs assistance, all of the hubs offer food assistance through a Mini Market. At the Southeast Hub, the Mini Market strives to serve 25 to 30 families every week. The Hub relies on multiple food partnerships for the market to accommodate the increased number of families needing access to food.

The Southeast Hub is deeply grateful to City Harvest and Volunteers of America for their partnership. Since this collaboration began in August 2024, it has become an invaluable resource to fill our Hub Mini Market. Thanks to City Harvest’s mission and dedication, we

are able to provide families with essential food items such as meats, fresh produce, beverages (juices and milk), bread, and other non-perishable goods like canned products.

The Southeast Hub is also grateful to City Harvest for launching the delivery initiative, where they collaborate with corporate partners to deliver food items to food pantries. We are honored to be beneficiaries of this program, and a special thank you to the dedicated corporate volunteers who generously give their time to pick up food from City Harvest and deliver it to the Hub. Their efforts, along with the time they spend organizing food in the market, ensure that everything is ready for our staff to distribute to families.

As one of six Community Hubs, the Southeast Hub is honored to be the pilot program for the delivery initiative. We are encouraged by the positive outcomes we’ve seen so far and are excited to work toward expanding this initiative across all six Hubs.

With City Harvest’s continued support, and with the involvement of volunteers of other organizations, we are confident that we can reach even more families.

Sincerely,
Fatima Challinor
Manager, Southeast Community Hub.
