Since 2020, AvalonBay has partnered with VOA Colorado to make a difference for underserved communities in the Denver metro. What sets VOA apart is the diversity of the people they help – from veterans, to seniors, to persons with disabilities, to families – VOA has more than 50 programs to help anyone in need! We love that VOA volunteer events bring us face to face with the people we’re helping, from serving burgers to people experiencing homelessness, to handing out meals during Thanksgiving and Christmas. Hands down, our favorite event is hosting bingo for the seniors at Sunset Park! We entertain the seniors with silly dad jokes and reward them with cozy bingo prizes such as soft blankets, mugs of candy, and holiday ornaments.
In addition to participating in volunteer events as diverse as VOA’s clients, AvalonBay associates have organized winter item drives and canned food drives for VOA, as well as a clothing drive for VOA’s Veteran Services Center. This year, we’re excited to help sponsor the inaugural SPIRIT Wine + Food Festival. Though the year is young, we’re already looking forward to hosting a Burger Friday, and we’re already rehearsing our best dad jokes for the folks at Sunset Park!
