A Blueprint For a Bright Future: Calcon’s Commitment to VOA Colorado

At VOA Colorado, we know that it takes a community to create lasting change—and partners like Calcon Constructors, Inc. are helping us build brighter futures, literally.

Calcon has been a trusted collaborator for more than a decade, standing beside us through three transformative projects: the renovation and expansion of the VOA Youth Center in 2010, the revitalization of the Bill Daniels Veteran Services Center in 2015, and now, The Theodora Family Hotel—our soon-to-open, five-story sanctuary for families experiencing homelessness, including veteran families.

For Calcon, this work is deeply personal. Founded by Navy veteran Calhoun Cox, the company has long held a commitment to serving those who served. With many veterans on their team and in their families, the chance to build a space that supports and uplifts others—right here in Colorado—was an opportunity they were proud to take on.

From navigating the challenges of building on bustling Colfax Avenue to creating innovative solutions for a high water table, Calcon’s expertise and dedication have been instrumental in making The Theodora Family Hotel a reality.

“We’ve built over 21 million square feet in our business lifetime,” said Brian Mortimore, Calcon president and principal for The Theodora project. “But projects like this—ones that change lives—are the ones that matter most.”

“From the top of their leadership all the way through their entire team, Calcon Constructors is incredibly generous and deeply supportive of our mission,” said Dave Schunk, VOA Colorado president and CEO. “Their commitment goes beyond building projects—they invest their time, resources, and heart into helping us serve children, veterans, and families across Colorado. We’re so grateful for their partnership and all they do to help us change lives.”

Thank you, Calcon, for helping us create a place where families can find stability, hope, and a fresh start.
