The Lasting Impact of VOA Colorado

Every day, lives are transformed through the work of Volunteers of America Colorado. In moments of darkness, when hope seems lost, VOA Colorado steps in—not just with a helping hand, but with open arms. Our mission is simple yet profound: to uplift those who need it most – most especially seniors, children, families, and veterans – and to offer safety, support, and the chance for a better tomorrow. Our goal is to transform lives, one person at a time.

At the heart of our organization is a network of compassionate volunteers—individuals who dedicate their time, energy, and hearts to making sure no one in our community is forgotten. From the warm meals served at our new soup kitchen to the safe shelter offered at the mission, our volunteers are the lifeblood of VOA Colorado. They don’t just serve food; they serve hope. They don’t just offer shelter; they offer a path forward.

Volunteering in Our Community: The Heart of Our Mission

The true impact of VOA Colorado is felt in the strength of our volunteers, who extend our reach and deepen our impact throughout the community. Every meal served, every night of shelter provided, and every smile shared with a struggling individual is possible because of their selfless commitment. Our volunteers work in shelters, in senior centers, and out in the field, offering companionship to the isolated and a helping hand to those in need. Their kindness and dedication create a ripple effect that reaches far beyond what any one person could achieve alone.

Jim Nix, director of Volunteer Services, says, “One aspect of volunteering that is so rewarding is the connections made. The impact when you can shine a light, to help someone be seen and heard and know that they matter, is so powerful. Volunteers in turn are impacted; they are moved and changed, too.”

The New Soup Kitchen: Nourishing the Body, Feeding the Soul

This year, we proudly opened the doors to our new soup kitchen at the mission, where we provide warm, nutritious meals to those facing hunger and homelessness. Of course, the food is delicious, but it is also a place where people come to feel cared for, where they can sit, rest, and be treated with the dignity they deserve. For many, this meal is the first sign that someone sees them, that they matter, and that there is a way out of their hardship.

Camp 38: Fueling Change and Hope for the Future

Our new Camp 38 fundraiser brings together community members, partners, and donors to support the programs that make VOA Colorado a cornerstone of care. This experiential event aims to raises awareness in a real, heart-felt way. Attendees step into the shoes of those we serve, walking through the doors of our programs like the Early Childhood Education Center and Adopt-a-Family. It’s an opportunity to truly understand the profound impact we have on individuals in need—from providing toys for children who would otherwise go without, to giving families a sense of home during the holidays.

The Ripple Effect of Compassion

For every person served by VOA Colorado, the ripple effect is immeasurable. A mother escaping domestic violence, a veteran experiencing homelessness, a senior isolated by age—each of these individuals receives more than just immediate assistance. They gain the strength to rebuild their lives and the knowledge that they are not alone. Through our shelters, meal programs, senior services, and beyond, VOA Colorado reaches thousands of people every year. But we couldn’t do it without the dedicated efforts of our volunteers and the generosity of our community.

VOA Colorado is not just a service provider—it’s a lifeline. We are there when people need us most, offering not just resources, but the compassion and care that can change the course of a life. As we look to the future, we know that the need will continue to grow, but so too will the power of our mission. With your support, through volunteering, donating, or attending Camp 38, we can ensure that every person in need has a place to turn, a place to feel safe, and a place to find hope.

“We welcome you to join our incredible volunteer family and make a lasting difference in the lives of our neighbors in need,” Nix added.
