As Colorado’s senior population grows, so does the need for support to help them age independently. VOA Colorado’s Aging Nutrition Services (ANS) serves over 2,800 seniors monthly through Meals on Wheels and Congregate Dining Centers, ensuring seniors receive nutritious meals that support their health.
Hunger and food insecurity affect many seniors. In Colorado, nearly 12% of older adults face food insecurity. VOA’s programs offer more than meals—they provide crucial social interaction and community. The Market Meal Program supports homebound seniors who don’t need daily deliveries, ensuring no one is left behind.
VOA also offers Healthy Aging Programs with classes on diabetes prevention and fall risks. Fitness programs like tai chi empower seniors to stay active. ANS director Jered Ratschkowsky shared that among participants in the 12-week Healthy Moves program, 60% had no fear of falling by the end. This translates to increased strength and reduced risk of falls.
Nutrition education is also central, teaching seniors how to shop smart and cook on a budget. ANS associate director, Allison Delozier, noted that a year of home-delivered meals costs less than a day in the hospital. One client shared, “Because of this program, I eat healthier food, someone checks on me, and I can continue to live in my own home.”
Our Congregate Dining Centers provide more than just meals—they offer a space for connection, reducing isolation. VOA Colorado is committed to helping seniors live safely and independently through nutritious meals, fitness programs, and social connection.
